I have two HP printers. One takes a 92 and the other a 56. The cartridges look identical to me. Can I use the same cartridge number for both printers? Will it even work? Any advice.Do the numbers on printer ink cartridges really matter?
No it will not work, As there number signify the type of cartridge.
Like mine is 94 black and 95 color. So if you get 2 95 cartridges you will have 2 color ones. Some printers cartridges have chips in them to tell the printer how much is left and so on. If these chips are not the same, to what the printer is expecting, It will either not function or wont work correctly. You should by the correct one for your printer
Note to below
Both my printer have chips in the cartridge.I didnt say all did, some doDo the numbers on printer ink cartridges really matter?
the 92 and the 56, if you look closely, are actually made differently. they are not compatible at all, whereas a 56 *is* compatible with a 27 or sometimes a 21, and a 92 is sometimes compatible with the 94, 96, or 98.
While they look similar, they are not interchangeable.
You most likely won't even get the latch to close. Look closely at the top of both black cartridges. The parts that protrude are not in the same place.
And there are no chips in or on these cartridges. Everyone is worried about chips. If you don't see them....there are none. Period.
Add: the only HP inkjet cartridges with chips are the 10/11/12/14/ and 02 (and some wide-format DesignJet numbers that are for industrial use and most likely provided to companies under a maintenance agreement). There are no chips on or in the 92 the 56 OR the 95 (or those like them).
You should use the one that your printer needs
