Can't find any reference to this on the manufacturers website, what is your evidence?
Ah, I'm with you now, what you are looking at is an authorised food additive (it's what they mark the product with) E904 is a Shellac dye http://www.food-info.net/uk/e/e904.htm perfectly safe.
As for Sominex ;-
Side Effects:
Occasionally this medicine may cause side effects such as drowsiness, headaches, clumsiness, disturbance of the digestive system, dry mouth, blurred vision, difficulty in passing urine, disorientation, restlessness, palpitations, abnormal heart rhythm, low blood pressure (symptoms may include dizziness and light headedness) or allergic reactions, which may be serious and widespread (symptoms may include swelling of the mouth and airways, itching and swelling of the skin, vomiting or stomach pain). A few people may get a rash or become extra-sensitive to sunlight. Rarely, jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes) and blood cell disorders may occur. The elderly are particularly susceptible to the side effects and confusion due to the effects of this medicine. If you get these or any other unusual effects, stop using this medicine and tell your doctor or pharmacist at once. Why do the makers of Night Nurse add blue dye and printer ink?
Printer's ink ? it is probably harmless food dye. But if you are a purist then by all means stick with the Sominex. By the way, taking any sleep aid should be considered a temporary fix. You need to examine what is making you lose sleep in the first place, such as too much caffeine, not enough exercise, etc.
They do it to colour the tablet. Its not nice and I think a health law should be put in not allowing them to put nasty stuff in. Sometimes its also to get an ingredient in such as sodium. Its confusing as sometimes they just do it.
i think most people dont look so they would rather it look pretty. i mean after all they only care abut the money right so whatever sellls :(
Printer ink??? Are you serious? :o
