How do i know how much ink my printer has if it doesnt show me?

My printer has been acting stupid lately and it was working fine 2 days ago and then i took out the ink catridge cuz i was bored (stoopid me) and it wouldnt print any more then i tried doing it again to see if it works but nothing. Then I thught it was the ink I have Hp Photosmart D5160 and D5100 series??? anyone no how to see how much ink is left? How do i know how much ink my printer has if it doesnt show me?
You should be able to check in your printer utilities menu, under printers and faxes, and then the properties of your printer.

If not, HP may have a site that enables you to download a utilities add-on that will check for you.

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softw鈥?/a>

Try clicking on the above, select your operating system and maybe check out the ';full software and driver option';. It won't matter if the driver reinstalls.

try looking at the manual here:

In addition to that, most modern printers have something in the menu on the printer itself to give you a read out of how muc ink is left.

  • Is there any ink for printer that will not get dry?

I hardly use my printer so the ink went dry. I know, the way to prevent this from happening is to use it once a week and that is not an option. Is there any brand of ink that will not get dry?

Or, if I take out the ink cartridge if I am not using it, will that prevent the drying out? I am talking about weeks and maybe

months in between use.Is there any ink for printer that will not get dry?
when talking about ink jet catridges, they will all have varying degrees of drying. HP has been known for long lasting ink, but the cartridges that last work in printers with built in heads... which have been known to clog and break.

Laser toner will never dry out. In fact, when its sold to you its already in powder form. The toner catridges have an expiration on them, but anyone with a laser printer will tell you that toner lasts for years and years. Is there any ink for printer that will not get dry?
there is no ink really that you can get. the only thing or manurfacture that will last is HP...i am using the old HP's and they have yet to go dry. i have had the same ink cart. for over a year. i got then used. they sat in my car for 2 days in the 90degree heat and it did nothing to the ink. i rarely use them but when i do, they always print. HP guarantees there ink not to dry for 1 year.

What is more cost effective? Compare using an inkjet printer with compatible ink to using a laser printer.?

In fact, I mean the maintenance cost and not the cost price of the printer. What is more cost effective? Compare using an inkjet printer with compatible ink to using a laser printer.?
I take it your are heading towards lowest total cost of ownership/cost per page.

For high volume black and white lasers definitely have it by miles, especially as you cant hardly find a black and white inkjet these days, and colour ones often won't even print black and white if one of the colours is empty.

For low volume colour then back to ink jets.

For high volume colour, then back to lasers.

But there are huge differences between individual devices.

On inkjets the only consumable is usually the ink carts, though some use ink tanks with the heads seperate, these tend to be good for between 500-2000 pages at 10% coverage.

On laserjets you have three to or four consumables. (Toner rated at 10% coverage the rest just pages)

Toner cart - 2000-20000 pages (4 of for colour)

Transfer rollers 5000- 50,000 (Often combined with the toner cart)

Transfer belt 20000-10000 pages (Colour printers)

    Fuser 50000 to 200000 pages

Also look at the ease of clearing paper jams, some lexmarks are appalling, generally HP and OKI easier.

On lasers you may also need to replace pickup rollers and seperation rollers or pads due to the high volume, long design lifes but these are only a couple of quid each and easy to click in and out.

Also some lasers you need an engineer to change the fuser, on others, its press two levers, pull it out and clip in the new one.

You should check out things like duty cycle which will give a pages per month (or week or day) type figure.

Another advantage of lasers, because its melted in poweder, the printouts don't run when wet while inkjet prints generally do.

A disadvantage of inkjets, if only used occasionally, the ink can dry out.

Hope my rambling helps more than confuses.

Peronally I have a couple of cheepo multifunction colour inkjets and a several year old second hand duplex (Double sided) b/w laserjet. What is more cost effective? Compare using an inkjet printer with compatible ink to using a laser printer.?

Inkjet printers have problems with printer heads becoming clogged if not used at least every few days. They use lots of ink, most of it wasted on start up and head cleaning. Laser printers do not have those problems. Turn it on after 6 months and it prints. I'm only guessing but toner is a lot cheaper than liquid ink. I use both, inkjet is a All in One [fax, copy, scan and print]. Laser is a Samsung CPL-300 was on sale $124 and I just love a bargain.

Refilling the cartridge in ink-jet printers, can it really damage the printer and if yes how?

The manufacturers of ink jet printers do not recommend refilling, yet in the market refilling is offered openly and some of them even assure no damage to the printer. Refilling costs lessthan 20% of the cost of the new catridge. Some one can explain and advise?Refilling the cartridge in ink-jet printers, can it really damage the printer and if yes how?
I now how to refill the cartridge but i do not know where can i buy the inkRefilling the cartridge in ink-jet printers, can it really damage the printer and if yes how?
I use a Continuous ink supply system, save 90% on the cost of carts (Epson Photo 320) I have used equivalent of 70 cartridges, with no problems for me(but I did see Mr Epson crying in a corner) Seriously, I have saved so much if the printer goes belly up tomorrow, with what I have saved I can afford to buy 2 new printers.

For your next printer, search for ';Continuous Ink Supply Systems';, see which printers it can be applied to, take your pick printer-wise, get printer +system and join the revolution.!!! Seriously consider a trip to the skip with your current printer if it will not take the system.
I have been refilling cartridges at a local ink refiller and so far, my printer has not given up or had any problem with it. The ink cartridge though can only be refilled up to a maximum number of times and then you have to purchase an original cartridge again and have it refilled after its empty.
of course the manufacturers are going to tell you not to do it. you think they want to lose money? refills are fine and do nothing to the printer.
No problem at all using refilled cartridges if refilling done correctly.im using refilled cartridges for more than a year i have no problem at all. The no of copies will also increase with refilled cartridges.

Printer ink for my printer to use on wedding invitations?

I have decided to add wedding invitations as a service in my Wedding Programs business (some people have suggested that it would be a good idea to include that service as well) and wanted to know where I could find the type of ink that printer use for that sort of thing.

I believe that that ink is a special type and not your ordinary ink from Office Depot.

    Thanks

If you are using a standard printer to create the invitations, then you would use standard printer ink. If you are doing lithography or offset printing then you would need to use the ink recommended by the manufacturer of your printing equipment.

Thermal printers are like that but they require special paper and are not really used in home or general applications. What kind of printer requires no ink?
Like the person above has mentioned. Home printers are not equipped with this technology main reason why. Thermal printers are not practical for home use. Special paper is required and that is costly. Thermal printers are mostly used on devices such as Micros Terminal. The printer that prints the receipt it a thermal printer. Thermal printers are usually used in kitchens for printing out orders. As there is no ink, the, and kitchens can reach temperatures of up to 60degrees in the summer; real ink from a normal printer would leak and basically not work out. Therefore they use thermal ones. Cheers

I'm not aware of any printer currently available like this.

But, years ago there were thermal printers they used no ink

BUT, you needed special paper for them

They were common on old fax machines.

Ink jets cost the most per page.
Dell and Xerox both have some types of inkless printers -

Just Google ';Inkless printers'; as I did and you will find the latest versions -
Thermal printers, however they require special paper.

  • What's the deal with refilling printer ink cartridges?

does the refilled cartridge really last as long/ work as well as a new one? how much money do you usually save by refilling instead of buying new? can any type of printer ink cartridge be refilled? thanks for any info! What's the deal with refilling printer ink cartridges?
Honestly, refilling your own ink cartridges is not worth the trouble. I have refilled many an ink cartridge in my day. While you'll save about 50% over genuine replacements, it's not worth the aggravation. Depending on the type of cartridge you're refilling, you could need a chip resetter. And even then there is always the risk that your printer won't recognize the cartridge. Typically after 3 refills the failure rate increases too.

Instead I always buy remanufactured cartridges for my HP printer. Basically these are cartridges that have been professionally refilled, and they cost 35-50% less than genuine replacements. Compatible or generic cartridges are another option you might want to explore too. I'd definitely give compatibles or remanufactured cartridges a shot before getting into refilling your own.

There are several good articles on Castle Ink that address the different cartridge options: http://www.castleink.com/_inkjet_article鈥?/a>

You may want to check out the ';Refilling Ink Cartridges'; section. Hope this helps. What's the deal with refilling printer ink cartridges?
Not all cartridges can be refilled easily or at all. The quality of the print depends somewhat on the refill ink used and the method used to refill. I've used products for HP, Canon, and Epson from http://inksupply.com before with good to great results (Some Epson cartridges can be a PITA to refill.)

I'd suggest taking a look to see if your particular cartridge is listed, and look at the online instructions for refilling.

Unless you are using at least 2 or 3 sets of cartridges per year, refilling probably won't make sense... Even a small refill kit will do that many refills, but if you are only needing one set per year, it's more likely that your current printer will end up ';dead'; before you use up all the ink you'll get in a refill kit.

Printer Ink refills - do they really work? Which do you recommend if so (UK suppliers) ?

I have a new HP F300 series printer/scanner/copier. It takes HP 21 and HP22 cartridges, which have run out. The company's own brand are so expensive so I was wondering if I dare try to use a refill kit. Do they really work as well as they are said to by the sellers?

I am in the UK so if anyone could recommend a brand if they do work that well I'd be very grateful. Thanks.Printer Ink refills - do they really work? Which do you recommend if so (UK suppliers) ?
Usually they are absolutely fine, and consumer tests have shown that they do not cause any of the problems claimed. The best way to save is to buy a printer that can take generic refill cartridges - I have a Canon and pay 拢2 a cartridge rather than 拢15 and have never had a single problem.

Unfortunately, HP is unique in that the print head is part of the cartridge. This makes generic cartridges less of a saving. Refilling with a refill kit works but can be messy. The other alternative is to buy a cartridge/refill system. With this you use a special type of cartridge in which the tank is detachable from the print head, and then just buy refill tanks.

Oh, and it is illegal in the UK to void a warranty because of the ink used. The manufacturer would have to prove you were at fault.Printer Ink refills - do they really work? Which do you recommend if so (UK suppliers) ?
they might work once or twice, but will cause more damage to your printer. Plus you void your warranty using those. New cartridges are not only new ink, but clean nozzles and you don't have the residue from old cartridges.

I am using transfer paper to make a message made of black letters appear on a t shirt. When printing a picture with white on it how do I make white ink print onto the page? How do I make my printer print white ink?
Like the other answers here, you don't print white ink.

I have seen, in very special circumstances, white ink available (for printing on dark papers/material. In these cases, the person purchases white ink, and fills an empty cartridge (this only works if there isn't a small chip on the ink) with the white ink. The printer can't tell its printing white, it thinks its working along like usual. (You make a picture/image/text like normal, using the black color where you want the white ink to show up. You then replace the black ink cartridge with a cartridge that is filled with white ink. The printer works like it is printing the black ink, when in reality its putting white ink down)

If your looking to print on t-shirts, etc, I suggest you check out US Screen Print Institutes's website. They offer some really nice printers for screen printers, and I have seen them using white ink on some of their models, but be warned, this isn't cheap technology, most of their units start at hundreds of dollars, and end up in the thousands for the really nice and large printers.

Hope this helps! How do I make my printer print white ink?
Yeah, sorry mate, but it's pretty rare for printers to have white ink cos usually people print on to white paper. Best you can hope for is a very light yellow/blue/green. Well, unless you like pink, of course. Nah, probably not.

it's not quite the same. But printing photos

isn't exactly smart unless you really need them

for preproduction or on a very short term.

They're faster, have much better printing results

    on normal paper, they don't choke and the ';ink';

    doesn't dry.

Edit: Oh wait hehe. Solid Ink :)

Solid ink has pretty good results on nearly any

For Photo Printer Solid Ink is Fine, and for Textual Works Color Laser is fine. In my view HP Color Laserjet is fine.
the problem of ink printer is when you don't use from your printer for 2 or 3 month or more your printer cartridge going to wet and you cant use it and you must replaced it but the quality of print is wonderful and is very best for photo printing but the laser printer didn't have this problem but the quality is very poor for photo printing my suggestion is use from ink printer and i must say to you that the solid ink cartridge not created to now the ink cartridge only work whit liquid ink.

What will food color added to your printer ink do?

2 weeks ago My hubby did that. The color is the same and have had no problems. It was low asking for ink. i have printed numerous things and everything is right on. is there black food color? If there is I will try that too. What will food color added to your printer ink do?
    wow.

That is clever. The composition of most inks is a delicate balance of many chemicals, like 'soapy' stuff, different kinds of alcohol, and of course pigments. Adding food colors ( which may be in the ink in the first place ! ) forces the original ink down to the bottom of many carts, so that you could be actually printing with original ink ( until the color food dye hits the printheads ) . Canon uses one type of print mechanism, usually with just foam filled plastic removable ink carts on the top, and Epson uses a different print head, originally with foam carts - but now with a mechanical pressure gear multichannel cart, and Lexmark and HP use a gold print head ON the carts, with mostly foam, but some charged bladder air balanced mechanisms.

There are many other printers with slight variations.

You do not state which kind you are having luck with.

If you use Canon or Epson type with the print head bolted to the drive rail, the answer is unknown - you may be inadvertently using what they use anyway, or close enough that it doesn't matter. If the molecular size of the food color is equal or less than that of the original, you may be doing well - please post back which kind of printer you have - you may have stumbled across something many people would be interested in ! ! !

If you use the HP or Lexmark type, the same rule of thumb would apply, but if something goes wrong, the head is not bolted to the unit, so you just get a new one - great stuff..

Black food colour is available as well as gold, silver, and other strange types, but black would probably just the 3 colours mixed anyway - and you could try this yourself - there are many printers that have no black ink, they lay down yellow, then red, then blue, and the result is black. In fact, on some printers that do have black ink, they lay down a track of blue first to blacken the print, and others, on highest quality black presentation mode, lay down yellow, red, blue and then black to achieve a solid black.

You would just have to weigh the risk of clogging '; some '; specific kinds of print heads with unknown molecular sized particles - against further experiments -- if the head is bolted down, you would be gambling with the printer itself.... your call, as no one else I have heard of has done this .... bravo !

PS. I clicked on the link above by soothsayer - wow - printing in edible color on edible transfer sheets on edible products. Obviously food dyes, if mixed properly can work well - AND to boot, in the two most difficult printers to maintain ink refills...

These edible print people proobably know a GREAT deal more about ink composition and molecule size than I do...

You are on to something here ! I have 50 or 60 bottles of various ink refills sitting here - now it looks like I will have to expand my horizons to the edible kind... Thanks for a great question and some great ingenuity I learned a lot! What will food color added to your printer ink do?
it will make your letters delicious. some bakeries use dedicated ink jet heads (never cross contaminate food inks with non food inks) to print pictures onto cakes, cookies, etc.

like this webpage sorta shows you.

    http://www.computercakes.com/edible_ink.鈥?/a>
You're really risking clogging your print heads. If that happens, with most printers, there's a good chance you'll have to get a new printer as most heads are not replaceable.
Are you sure your husband wasn't pulling your leg. I doubt that food color would work in the cartridge. It's no easy task to add color and it would have to be mixed.
They will fade quickly I imagine. Inkjets fade over time.
Probably not much in small supplies.

  • What can be used to clean printer ink stains on clothes and hands.?

printer ink is soluble in waterWhat can be used to clean printer ink stains on clothes and hands.?
For Hands: Diluted bleach usually removes ink immediately, however if you are worried about this harming or you want an alternative, you could try the following; face toner, nail polish remover, rubbing alcohol, bathroom cleaner, surface cleaner... Also, when you dilute the bleach you should use warm water as this will help remove ink stains faster than cold.

For the clothes: Try rubbing alcohol, put a clean white towel underneath the clothing and test a hidden spot first to make sure no unwanted results occur. Then blot the clothing with the rubbing alcohol and the ink should be transferred onto the white towel leaving it discoloured and wet. Move clothing to a clean spot of the towel each time it becomes soaked with ink, then rinse clothing completely of rubbing alcohol.

If the above fails you can use nail polish remove but use the same method of removal.

Acetone can be used as a last resort but isn't reccomended unless completely necessary as it does not work well with some fabrics especially acetate and rayon fabrics.

Next, you can mix baking soda and warm water and rub the clothes with this until the stain is removed and rinse with warm water.

You can use a stain stick, gel or spray on the ink stain and follow the directions on the product packaging.

I have bulk of documents to print and need to refill the cartridges with ink I bought but I dont know how to do it. The store attendant refused to teach. My frineds are all busy. Pls help.Thanks.How do I refill my printer cartridge with ink?
You can find your own refill kits, which I have had no luck with, or you can take it to a popular drug store which is now refilling your black and white and color cartridges. They will also check it for leaks. Walgreens is who I use, and it is much less expensive. How do I refill my printer cartridge with ink?
Go to Internet and check the method how to refill.
how to refill a cartridge depends highly upon what type of printer you have.
i take mine to my local Walgreens and they do it right then while i wait..usually my black ink ones cost around 12 dollars and the color around 18...call your local store or look on www.walgreens.com to make sure that yours offers the service because some do not but it's for sure the quickest and cheapest way to get it done.

What are the pros and cons for a laser printer, against an ink printer?

Laser printers generally don't have to be refilled as often and their printing is slightly more ';smooth';, in that the actually printing doesn't look so blotched. However, this benefit is diminishing since ink jets are getting to be far more advanced. Ink jets, on the other case, can print color easier and will last longer... my laser broke after one year since the printing drum had been used so much (but then I'm writing a book so that's the reason).

Honestly the lasers are nicer but more expensive, especially if you want color in your laser, if you have money to spare buy one of those, just make sure to ask about what would happen if the drum breaks (I don't know if it's called ';breaking'; though). You want to find a printer that the drum can be easily replaced. What are the pros and cons for a laser printer, against an ink printer?

In a nutshell, despite a larger upfront cost for a laser printer, the inkjet will cost you a good deal more in the long run for new cartridges or refills, unless you can find good third-party ones at a low price. What's the difference between a laser printer and an ink printer? Which is better?
laser printers use toners where as inkjet use int cartridges. Generally laser printers can only print black white or color. you will need two laser printers to do what one inkjet does. Toners are more expensive than inkjet cartridges and laser printers cost more to maintain. laser printers are faster than inkjets.

Why does my printer say the ink level is low after having the cartridge refilled?

I have a lexmark x2500 printer. My husband took the cartridge (color 29) to Walgreens to have it refilled today. I put in it the printer and now I can't print anything. Finally a message popped up saying the that ink needed to be replaced because it's low. I this a problem with the printer or did Walgreens mess up the cartridge? Why does my printer say the ink level is low after having the cartridge refilled?
I had 2 carts refilled at walgreens and they each printed 3-4 pages and then empty. I wont go back there. Why does my printer say the ink level is low after having the cartridge refilled?
This problem is because the cartridges are designed to be replaced when empty, rather than refilled. They have an on-board chip which would need to be reprogrammed to make it appear like new, with the printer software showing a full ink chamber.

This reprogramming is easy for Epson printers, resetters being easily available. For other models it is not so easy. But it still works.
you have to tell the printer that you have replaced it so that it has registered it has new ink inside. The printer level will then be adjusted to full accordingly.

Some printers like mine (Canon) recognize that when u change a cartridge, it asks you which one you have replaced and adjusts the ink level(s) accordingly
Your printer is remembering that cartridge as the one it just emptied.

Many cartridges have an electronic signature which your printer remembers.

There is no way to clear or fix this, simply keep printing ignoring the low ink warning.
reset the printer setings to say it is full their is really no sensor on a cartriage the pc just guesses about how long it will last do a calibration of the printer and select the full ink selection and calibrate it
sometimes it does that i used to have the same problem when i had that printer it should work you know but it doesn't hurt to get your printer checked
i have a lexmark printer too, and it always says the ink is low even when a new one is in. its really irritating, but mine does still print
You probably havent enterd on your computer that you refilled you ink. Try opening your printer and clousing it. Your computer should ask you if you replaced your ink of not.
make sure you have them plugged into their right slots.

    and that they are attached.

    do a test run first.

if it doesnt work take them back.

walgreens should give you a new set with no problems :)
It could be that your black ink cartridge is empty, or that the cartridged got damaged, or you didn't put it in correctly.
reseded the ink caridige, some time cartridge nosel are blocked, then clean with paper towel and try again.
turn off the printer and turn it on again and see if it sess that it is filled again
    Take it back to walgreens.

Is it normal for a printer with ink cartridge marking half full not to print anymore?

I use Lexmark X125 and the ink cartridge (black) is only 5 months oldIs it normal for a printer with ink cartridge marking half full not to print anymore?
Yes - provided that you haven't been using your printer regularly. What tends to happen is that as the cartridges sit dormant, the ink tends to dry out and clog. So my guess is that if you haven't been working your printer lately, you've probably got a clog. As a tip, try to run your printer weekly (even if it's only printing one line) to keep the ink flowing and freshIs it normal for a printer with ink cartridge marking half full not to print anymore?
Im not sure but my printer about the same age and lexmark and it is half full and it still prints.. Hmm might be a problem with yours here are some steps that might help.

    1. Check the obvious. Are you out of ink or toner? Is your printer getting power? Are all the cables securely fastened? If you have a laser printer, is it set to online mode?

    2. Are other print jobs blocking the way? Go to Start | Control Panel | Printers And Other Hardware | Printers And Faxes. Double-click the icon for your printer to open the Documents window and clear any pending print jobs by selecting Cancel All Documents from the Printer drop-down menu (see Figure 1).

    3. Try printing a test page from the printer, not from Windows XP. Most printers have a built-in test function that's activated by holding down one or more buttons while the printer is starting up. Check your printer's user manual for instructions. If this page prints successfully, you know the problem is either with your connection or with the software in your computer.

    4. Check your printer's USB or parallel connection.

    5. Try printing something simple from Windows' Notepad. To open Notepad, go to Start | All Programs | Accessories | Notepad, type a few lines of text in a document, and try printing it. If it successfully prints, the problem is with the software program you originally tried to print from.

    6. Try printing using Windows XP's generic printer driver. Open and run the Add Printer Wizard. When you get to the Install Printer Software screen, select Generic under Manufacturer and Generic/Text Only under Printers (see Figure 2).

    7. Select No for Do You Want To Use This Printer As The Default Printer? (see Figure 3). Click Next.

    8. When prompted on the next screen, tell Windows XP to print a test page. If the page successfully prints, then you probably have a problem with your installed printer driver. Either update or reinstall the driver.

How do i prevent the ink from an ink jet printer from smudging?

when i print something out and i accidentally touch it the ink smudges the ink?

how can i prevent this from happening? How do i prevent the ink from an ink jet printer from smudging?
This is depends on what is your printer model.

Some printer model use dye and pigment based ink. (Dye based ink is a water based ink that easily smudge but has rich in color characteristic).

If your printing result was smudge, most likely your printer is using dye based ink. You can not change that. That is the feature of your printer.

You can use inkjet paper instead of plain paper but it still smudge if you touch it with your wet finger.

I suggest, you leave it the printing result for a few minutes to dry completely. How do i prevent the ink from an ink jet printer from smudging?
Use good quality inkjet paper. It is more absorbent and takes less time to dry than ordinary paper.

However it still won't dry up instantly so you still have to be careful not to touch it right out of the printer.
    Wait for it to dry.
Spray it with hairspray, the alcohol content absorbs moisture

It will not print unless the light is off. How can I fix this?I have an hpdeskjet printer and my ink light keeps blinking even after I put new ink in?
if i were you, i'll probably try a few troubleshooting basics.

power off printer, check and ensure cartridge if properly seated and locked (you may hear a click sound after correctly placing the cartridge or there may be some sort of locking device) when all of above is done, power on printer. assuming light is not blinking anymore, print a test page for printer to realign itself.

if above does not work, go to http://www.hp.com and go to support site. find troubleshooting tips for your printer and look for similar symptoms and possible solution. hp support group will probably ask you if you did a little troubleshooting anyway.

if after doing the above the printer still fails then go ahead and make the phone call (hopefully a toll free phone call, lol)

good luckI have an hpdeskjet printer and my ink light keeps blinking even after I put new ink in?
You need to let the printer know that there is a new cartridge installed. For newer printers, you can open control panel and then printers to change the printer options and reset the cartridge information. The problem might also be due to the information that is stored on the cartridge's memory. The copper contacts on the front may only allow the cartridge to be single use (refilling the cartridge will not reset it). The cartridge can be reset by covering certain contacts on the cartridge and re-installing it in the printer. If you got a ink refill kit, the instructions included will show you how to do this.
some of hp's newer printers use a chip in them so it blocks the option of refilling cartridge but if its a new hp (none clone non refilled) i'd get in contact with hp the new cartridge has warranty even if your printer does not and they should be able to troubleshoot it with you for free or at least they will tell you to go to hps website online free support they are good with that
the same thing happened to my printer check the printing heads make sure they are clean if that doesent work buy new headers that fixed my printer they are kind of expensive though

How do you get dryed ink to work in your printer? The ink is full but it is dryed out?

One thing I do is go boil some water, hold the cartridge over the steam coming from the boiling water until the water goes cold, then I used a wet paper towel to wipe the contacts. This usually works since it helps unclog the ink inside.

Best of luck and hope my method will work! How do you get dryed ink to work in your printer? The ink is full but it is dryed out?
It seems unlikely that the ink inside the cartridge has 'dryed out'. More likely the ink around the ink jet nozzles has dried out and clogged up the pores, so to speak. If this is the case, take a q-tip, dip it in isopropyl alcohol and GENTLY clean the copper strip that has all the dried ink on it. Repeat the process until the copper strip is very clean and bright. Then it should work fine if there is ink still left in the cartridge. How do you get dryed ink to work in your printer? The ink is full but it is dryed out?
Don't bother, USing damaged or dried out ink. It will ruin your printer. Trash the dried out cartridge, and go buy a new one. It will save you in the long run on the cost of a new printer, after you ruin yours from using damaged junk
Refill with same ink color, it dried out already.

What ink jet colour printer would do the job at a bargain price?

Look at the Epson Stylus Photo R260. It costs under $100 and supports many features in the print with preview in Photoshop. The ink is quite expensive (about $20 for each color and there are five ink cartridges plus black).

Most of the best ink jet printers have at least one black cart, one yellow and two magenta and two cyan carts. That is only part of the story. The ink used in photo ink jets are archival and the color consistency is above the standard print carts. What ink jet colour printer would do the job at a bargain price?
Go with Canon or Epson. They give the best image quality. The Canon ip5000 is cheap but gives an excellent image. The resolution is so fine, you actually need a magnifying glass to see the dots and most people cant tell the difference between an image from this printer and a realy photograph.
I have used a Canon A3 printer in the past, and personally I have found it more economical to take my images in and get them printed at even Kmart. They use Kodak paper and quality ink and I do not have to stock paper or ink, and if they dont print right, they reprint for you. I have used the instant print service, but the 6hr service is almost half the cost. Some places give you the option of paper finishes like high gloss or matt and some places have the grainy pro looking papers or even canvas, obviously you pay a premium for these services, maybe worth a look. I know its not as convienient as printing at home, but I have found it is cost effective, especially if you can pass on the costs. Happy snapping.
HP has the best printers for what you are looking for.

  • Does the type of paper make any difference when using an ink jet printer for everyday stuff?

Where I work uses copy paper for the inkjets and some use el-cheapo paper with tractor feed margins (removed. Print quality isn't important. Ink consumption is more important.Does the type of paper make any difference when using an ink jet printer for everyday stuff?
I use an ink jet printer on a daily basis and i just use ordinary photocopier paper.

Most photocopy paper is universal now and works well with most machines.

Just use a specialised paper when you want something to look high quality.

Ordinary paper wont damage your machineDoes the type of paper make any difference when using an ink jet printer for everyday stuff?
if you are printing lots of color e.g. a photo, you'd best use coated-paper - it reduces the ink consumption while keeping the colors bright etc. If you use normal paper it will look faded and dull, and actually get soggy in some cases from all the ink it's sucked in.
For everyday stuff? No not really just get Recycled 20lbs paper, the cheapest you can find.
There is no difrence, just the quality.
the problem with el-cheapo (I like that term I maight just borrow it from you) is that it can affect your print heads by leaving little bits of cloth on them and eventually youll have to buy new printheads.

as for ink consumption if you use bad paper you will probably have to print stuff again beacuse you don麓t like the results.
Ink consumption defers by the paper U R using
the copy paper is about the cheapest. and to sane ink, change your printer settings to low res. or draft
There a specif paper made for Inkjet printers...If Ur using regular paper...U might mess up the heads...allignments...not to mention the print quality!
    Not really
The crappier your paper, the more likely you are to encounter a jam, and most modern inkjets don't suffer jams well, especially if they require you to force the traverse (the part of the inkjet that moves the ink / nozzles over the paper) out of the way to clear the jam.

That said, standard 18- or 20-pound, 84-bright copy paper will be fine. What won't work well is cardstock (anything over 40-pound, or business-card-thick stock), onion skin / erasable bond or other papers with sticky coatings.
Well the more expensive papers makes your colors look brighter and normally they are a little thicker than the very cheap ones.

If you really want to save some ink just change the printer setting from normal quality to draft quality. The quality of the prints will be lower but should be good enough.
the type of paper should only be different if you are doing special things like resume, letters, envelopes, cards, when doing everyday stuff just use a paper of 92 to 20 brightness

On most cartridges at 5% print and a 27 cc, you should get around 400 pages per cartridge, hope that helped and good luck. How much is a typical printer ink (black)? and for how long would it last for normally?
Depends on several things but generally you could say between 拢12.00 and 拢20.00 and No of pages depends on quality and how filled the pages are so you should read the paperwork on your printer and it will give you some idea. Sorry to be so vague but there really are so many different makes and qualities of printerHow much is a typical printer ink (black)? and for how long would it last for normally?
depends on the printer type, the density and quality settings and what you are printing [text or photos]

bit like askin how long is a piece of string!
When you say how much, do you mean price? It depends on the make of printer. For me I have a Lexmark and I've found it's more expensive to get ink for it than for Canon or Hp (and some retailers do cheaper versions of ink for those printers, but not for Lexmark).

Plus it may be cheaper to refill an old ink cartridge, so prices may vary for that.

And how long the ink lasts once again depends on the printer, but also on the quality of paper you're printing (eg. quick print, normal, best quality, photo), how often you print out something etc. Also if you have very little ink left in the cartridge and you don't print anything for a while, then the life span of that cartridge will lessen.
Really depends on your printer. But I can tell you that Amazon.com is where I get my ink. I usually pay 10.00 but if I went to a office supply store it would be around 15.00. Amazon has the best prices for sure! One more thing, and this I learned from experience,,,only buy name brand ink, don't be fooled by cheap no name brands no matter what. Cheap ink will ruin the print-head on the printer and you'll be out a printer...which happened to me:(

Generally if it's an inkjet it will tell you via the print monitor software (you DID install the software it came with ?)

If it's a laser it will never run out of ink, but will need toner, in which case it's usually on the printer display itself, although depending on model may also show in the print monitor box while printing.

If you leave your ink jet printer on will it dry out the ink cartridge?

My Lexmark printer ink keeps running out and the cartridges are pretty new. I leave the printer on all the time, is this why the ink runs out so fast? Any computer nerds know the answer to this?If you leave your ink jet printer on will it dry out the ink cartridge?
    It makes no difference.

The reason why your cartridges are running out is probably because you have a lexmark. Lexmark is in the habit of making cartridges which are only good to print 40-100 pages.

I'll bet your printer has a number 28 and 29 or number 1, 2 or 3, cartridge in there. If you leave your ink jet printer on will it dry out the ink cartridge?
On or off if you do not use it it will dry out.

It can be full of ink but the part that print is what dry out.

If you do not use it often then you can cover the part that print.

When you buy a cartridge new, you will have to remove the seal, that is where you have too seal up.
Regardless if your printer is On or off if you do not use the ink it will dry out.

What is the difference between a ink jet printer and a Lazar printer? Which is a more economical choice?

My ink ject printer eats up ink so fast. I heard Lazar printers do not need to be refilled as often. Is this true? And is there a quality difference between the two? What is the difference between a ink jet printer and a Lazar printer? Which is a more economical choice?
The big difference between inkjet and laser printers are how they actually print. Inkjets actually spray ink onto a page, which is why they come out slightly damp/wet and you shouldn’t touch photos that you’ve printed right away. Laser printers actually put toner onto the page and then put it through a fuser, which heats up and fuses the toner to the paper. Laser tends to cost more than inkjets when you compare ‘upfront’ costs. Inkjets tend to be really cheap to buy the printer itself but the cost of the ink refill cartridges really adds up in the end. I know for a fact that most printer manufactuers (HP, Lexmark, ect) sell the printer units at a loss (they sell them cheaper than it costs to produce the item) because they end up making so much more money on ink cartridges.

Here is a great figure that I found on the website linked below:

“Even if you print very little, the cost quickly adds up: Seven pages a day times 300 days equals 2100 pages — an ink bill of $235.60 per year. If you own the printer for three years, the cost of cartridges comes to over $700 or about 13 times the original cost of the printer. For the Epson Stylus C62, Shulman concludes that the ink bill would be over $1000 for three year's worth of printing.”

Laser printers on the other hand are quieter and faster and don’t seem to have as many problems. Here is another part of that same article “An HP laser printer with an estimated machine cost of $400, combined with a $115 toner cartridge, yields 8000 pages. Printing 40,000 pages costs you $400 plus $460 for the ink for a total of $860. A Brother 1440 laser printer works out at about $930 for the same number of pages. That comes to around two cents a page, or eight times less than an inkjet printer. “

As for the environmental impact, only some inkjet cartridges can be refilled because of the brand or damage to the print head or a variety of other reasons. 99% of toner cartridges can be refilled - and you can buy the refilled toner cartridges (which are just as good as brand new) for a fraction of the cost of a new one!

As for which you should buy, it all depends on how much printing you plan to do. If you only need to print 100 pages or so total a year, then the inkjet would be your best option. If you’re planning to print directions off MapQuest every time you take a trip, print coupons out of your email or websites, and print papers for work/school then the laser would be a much better investment.

Quality: This is what I found at a different website on quality between the two:

';If you need to print top-quality photos, an inkjet is a must. Even most $1,000 color lasers can't match the best $100 inkjet (equipped with photo inks and the proper paper) for glossy photo prints. But be prepared to wait a bit for such results: Most inkjets require a minute or so to produce a 4x6 photo, and up to 4 minutes for an 8x10. A color laser might produce an 8x10 in under a minute, but you wouldn't mistake the printout for a photo-lab enlargement.

    As for text, inkjets have made tremendous strides in both speed and quality, but to our eyes laser printers still have the edge. A good inkjet can produce well-formed, crisp text on plain paper; print the same page on a laser printer, however, and the characters (especially at smaller point sizes) will really pop. And don't let manufacturer claims of 20 and even 30 pages per minute (ppm) fool you into thinking an inkjet is as fast as a laser. Those claims are generally for low-quality draft mode. A laser will be much speedier at outputting text and graphics pages than an inkjet set to highest quality. So if you print a lot of text documents, get a personal laser. ';

Good luck making a decision! What is the difference between a ink jet printer and a Lazar printer? Which is a more economical choice?
lazer printers are insanely expensive. You usually only see them in offices, never in the homes because they are so expensive. Its even worse if you want a color one.

If you check staples or office max online, they have the pricing on them and you'll see why the majorty of us have to stick to ink jet printers. I would recommend getting the ink jet refill kits. That way, you can refill your cartidges as home for a bigger savings.

a color laser printer is about 600.00 on staples.com right now. Yes it is better, but who can afford it?
Laser printers are intended for mid and high volume office environments, and offer significantly lower quality in terms of photo quality. Ink jet offers superior quality, usually at a higher cost per page.

I saw those new Kodak printers over the weekend (ciucuit city and Wal-mart) that sell the ink refills for about half the price of other manufacturers. The quality looked good and the price was right.
The wave of the future is Lazzzzzzer!
ink jet give u better pictures if you are into photo quality print on glossy paper, lasers are faster but there is a difference in quality but they are great for prinitng documents.. in the long run they are more economical and faster but for home use, if you dont print loads and if you like to do good quality pictures from time to time i would stick with the ink jet.
you can lighten up you ink sometimes and if you use either one a lot then its going to use a lot of ink either way...should be able to print and pack of 500 or more of paper with one fill
    Yes quality difference,

Ink more expensive in laser printers but much better quality.

I am searching for the formula to produce printer catridge ink?

Thank you.I am searching for the formula to produce printer catridge ink?
HCNI am searching for the formula to produce printer catridge ink?
It will be a very long shot and the reference below will give you idea how difficult it really is.
    ink for pens?
You can't. first of all toner cartridges work completely differently from inkjet printers. Toners are usually in a powder form that is fused by the heat from lasers onto the paper. Inkjet printers use very fine droplets of a liquid ink that sprays onto the paper and has to dry. Two different materials, two different methods, you could not find one formula for both.

Aside from that, ALL of this stuff is proprietary, even the companies that do things like refill inkjet cartridges, their ink formulas are proprietary. So you couldn't make something that was universal.
Can I ask why? You know you can buy ink refill kit for pretty cheap right? You can play with the ink in there if you like.

Toner is a little different. Toner is suppose to be very small plastic not ink. The plastic is melted onto the paper.

If you do decide to go with this printer, there are a few important facts that I like to tell everyone about:

    1. Leave the printer on:

It is recommended that you leave your printer turned on. The printer is Energy Star compliant. Every time you turn your printer off and then back on, it recharges the ink cartridges and actually uses ink. This is true for all printers. If you print often you should not have any problems with your printheads. If you do not print very often, it is recommended that you perform a nozzle check every couple of days to keep the printheads from drying out and becoming clogged. If this does happen, all you need to do is a printhead cleaning. This maintenance operation varies from printer to printer and will be explained in your user鈥檚 manual.

    2. When you run out of ink, you will have to manually tell the printer that you want to change the ink cartridge:

This is due to a safety feature that is on all Epson printers. It is very easy for children to open the lid of the printer. If your child opens the lid and the printhead carriage begins cycling (moving back and forth), your child鈥檚 fingers can easily get hurt. Therefore you need to tell the printer you want to change the cartridge. This information is in your user鈥檚 manual as well.

    3. If you run out of a color, you cannot use the printer until it is replaced:

The reason for this is yet another safety feature for your printer. There are actually two reasons for this feature. First, if you are allowed to print with an empty ink cartridge, when you finally do replace the ink cartridge, your printhead maybe clogged. This is due to the fact that there is an ink reservoir in the printhead. If there is not any ink to keep the reservoir moist, it will dry out and become clogged. I use this illustration; it is the difference between new glue and dried glue. The glue will flow freely when it is liquid, but when it dries out it is set and hard. Now imagine this example in your printhead. Secondly, some printers allow you to print if a ink cartridge is empty. They do this by combining the remaining colors to produce the desired color. The only problem with this theory is that you will not get accurate, true colors, especially if you are printing photos. How are you going to accurately make yellow with cyan and magenta?

    Try rubbing alcohol.
I don't know how much of it you got on there, but I would make an appt with a dermatologist - explain you need to see them as soon as possoible. Or just walk into your family docs office, show them your hands!.... we've learned in school most inks can be very difficult to remove so depending on your exposure ( how bad it is), you will want to consider medical treatment, I think.

Oh yah, it wouldn't hurt to try rubbing alcohol on a small portion of your hands to see what happens. Saw someone else suggested that... rubbing alcohol worked great for getting ink from a broken pen out of the cupholder in my car, even after being baked on in the sun! But I dunno if printer ink is the same...

When you print, don't choose the default printer option. When you print, the print screen pops up. Don't hit PRINT. Select PROPERTIES. Under PROPERTIES, there should be a choice for GRAYSCALE PRINTING. It works for my printer when I want to avoid the clr cartridge (especially if it is out). Since my printer is different from yours, the procedure maybe slightly different so you may have to play around until you find the GRAYSCALE PRINTING option. Hope this helps.

What is the cheapest way to get ink for printer, and what kind of printer uses the cheapest ink?

For inkjet cartridges or laser toner. I spent alot of time online trying to figure out what ink cartridges consistently sell for cheap on Ebay but there doesn't seem to be one that always sells for cheap. Has anyone else done research on this? What is the cheapest way to get ink for printer, and what kind of printer uses the cheapest ink?
Wow! Two pieces of bad advice in one answer!

The cheapest cost per page would be with a monochrome laser. I have a brother hl2040. I get toner on ebay for $6 which is good for 3,000 pages. But if you want color, get a printer with separate cartridges for each color. A printer which uses one black and one color is a terrible choice. It means if you run out of one color you have to replace the entire cartridge even though you still have the other colors. That's why all the good printers made today have separate cartridges for each color.

Next, Epson is the best choice for an inkjet. The best warranty in the industry. For a year, Epson will express-ship a replacement and pick up the old one.

Cheap ink. I get cartridges for my Epsons from http://ccs-digital.com for under $3 each which hold 50% more ink than standard cartridges.

Take a look at the NX series or the Workforce series. Avoid the Artisan series because it uses expensive cartridges for which I havent found compatibles.

I have been buying cartridges on ebay for years but in the last few years I was getting more and more bad ones. Ever since Epson and the other companies started making printers which reject compatibles, a lot of the ones on ebay didnt work for me. I stick with ccs-digital.com because their stuff works well and it has a money-back warranty (unlike ebay where the warranty ends the minute you leave feedback). What is the cheapest way to get ink for printer, and what kind of printer uses the cheapest ink?
The website CCS Digital does have good prices for Epsons, but for any other brands you have to ask them through email because its not listed on their website and their prices are higher than Ebay. Report Abuse

    DO NOT GET AN EPSON

I would go with a printer maybe hp, that only uses one color and one black. And, I would try to find one that has replacable nozzles or your printer wont last over 2 years. dont buy ink from the printers website, go anywhere it get it way cheaper, 123inkjets.com, and others
I like Canon printers for individual ink tanks because I've found that Epsons dry out.

For two-ink systems like HP, get them refilled at Walgreens or something.

For laser, go with a Brother or Lexmark brand. Long-lasting, cheap, and easy to refill.

Is my printer ink cartridge empty, or is there another problem?

The black ink cartridge in my printer (HP Officejet 5110 all-in-one) appears to be cutting out on a few lines in a particular area right across the page and near the top. Does this mean that the cartridge is running low, or is it another fault of some kind, either with the cartridge or the printer?

I have a hpIs my printer ink cartridge empty, or is there another problem?
I'm assuming you checked the ink level, and it still has plenty of ink left. If that's the case, try this:

Step one: Checking the print cartridges and cleaning the cartridge contacts

Even if the cartridge is new, follow the steps below to clean the print cartridge contacts. Print cartridges have a substance on the contacts to keep them from corroding during storage that may cause poor electrical contact between the print carriage and the print cartridge.

    1.

Verify that the product is turned on.

NOTE: If the HP product is not turned on, you will not be able to remove the print cartridges.

    2.

Open the unit to access the print cartridges.

    3.

After the print carriage (the part that holds the print cartridges) stops moving, unplug the power cord without turning off the unit using the power button. If you turn the unit off the print cartridges will be capped to prevent them from drying out and you will not be able to remove them. You must unplug the power cord to prevent the print carriage from moving.

    4.

    Remove both print cartridges.

    5.

Verify that the part number on the cartridge is the correct part number for the unit.

    6.

Using a cotton swab or lint free cloth (like a coffee filter) lightly moistened with distilled, filtered, or bottled water, clean the electrical contacts of the cartridge.

NOTE: When an all-in-one is used frequently for black and white printing but infrequently for color printing (for example, an all-in-one that is used primarily as a fax machine), the color cartridge will still eventually fail and need to be replaced. The pins in the print carriage can cause dents on the contact points of the color cartridge over time (usually between six and twelve months).

    7.

Wipe the contacts with a dry, cotton cloth, as shown, to dry the contacts and finish cleaning.

    8.

Reinsert the cartridges and lock them in place.

    9.

Close the top cover or access door and plug in the power cord.

    10.

If the error continues, repeat these steps. If further cleaning fails to clear the error, proceed to ';Step two: Cleaning the print carriage contacts'; below.

Step two: Cleaning the print carriage contacts

Have the following materials available to clean the print carriage contacts:

    *

Cotton swabs or any soft material that will not come apart or leave fibers.

    *

Distilled, filtered, or bottled water (tap water may contain contaminants that can damage the print cartridges)

CAUTION: Be careful not to get ink on hands or clothing.

Do the follow to clean the cartridge contacts inside the product:

    1.

If the unit is off, turn it on.

    2.

Open the unit to access the print cartridges.

    3.

After the print carriage stops moving, unplug the power cord. Do not turn the unit off before unplugging the power cord.

    4.

    Remove both print cartridges.

    5.

Using a cotton swab or cloth lightly moistened with distilled, filtered, or bottled water, clean the electrical contacts of the print carriage as shown below.

    6.

On models equipped with locking latches, lower the latches.

    7.

Wait five minutes for the contacts to dry and then plug in the power cord. The unit will begin to reinitialize. Wait until the process is complete before proceeding.

    8.

Reinsert the print cartridges when prompted and then close the top cover or access door.

    9.

If the message recurs, replace the print cartridge indicated by the message.

    10.

If the problem still exists, replace both print cartridges. Since the cartridges are electronically connected through the printed circuit board, the cartridge not indicated in the message might be the causing the failure. Is my printer ink cartridge empty, or is there another problem?

What does printer toner ink do to your body if you sit next to the machine all day?

to the machune all day? What does printer toner ink do to your body if you sit next to the machine all day?
If anything I would have some concern about the Ozone emitted by the printer. If it has a toner, not a cartridge, then it's a laser printer. Lasers have a high voltage power supply to attract the carbon particles. This high voltage produces Ozone. I can smell it after entering the enclosed room where the printer is. Is this harmful? I don't know.

    Taken from Wikipedia, Laser Printers:

    ';Ozone hazards

As a natural part of the printing process, the high voltages inside the printer can produce a corona discharge that generates a small amount of ionized oxygen and nitrogen, forming ozone and nitrogen oxides. In larger commercial printers and copiers, a carbon filter in the air exhaust stream breaks down these oxides to prevent pollution of the office environment.

However, some ozone escapes the filtering process in commercial printers, and ozone filters are not used in many smaller consumer printers. When a laser printer or copier is operated for a long period of time in a small, poorly ventilated space, these gases can build up to levels at which the odor of ozone or irritation may be noticed. A potential for creating a health hazard is theoretically possible in extreme cases.[citation needed]';What does printer toner ink do to your body if you sit next to the machine all day?

  • How many colors of ink in the cartridges does the average photo printer or ink jet printer use?

I am just wondering how many different color cartridges the average ink jet uses and how many the average photo printer uses, because I see one that is a pack of 4 different colors and I am not sure??

ThanksHow many colors of ink in the cartridges does the average photo printer or ink jet printer use?
All photos and all the colors can be made with the 3 basic Cyan, Magenta and Yellow colors.

Some photo printers have more colors like Light Cyan, Light Magenta, Grey, etc. These typically just give more gamut and a slightly wider range of colors so that you see less graininess as the color transitions.

An example would be using just the black cartridge to print grey. You'd print less and less ink and the color looks more greyish. But if you had a grey cartridge, then your color transition would look smoother as you can mix more color combinations. How many colors of ink in the cartridges does the average photo printer or ink jet printer use?

53 is on the lower end of prints you should get per cartridge. Is this the cartridge that came with the printer or had you already replaced it with a new one? If it's the one that came with the printer, it's possible that it was not a full volume cartridge. Some printers don't come with a full volume ink cartridge, so you tend to get less prints.

Photo printers in general drink up the ink pretty fast, so don't be dissapointed if you don't get too many prints. But like I said, 53 prints is on the lower end.

Where can I buy glitter printer ink?

Is there such thing as glittery gold and silver printer ink that either is sold by the cartridge or by transferring it into an empty cartridge? If so, do you know where I can buy some?Where can I buy glitter printer ink?
You can definitely not have glitter in an ink cartridge, but there is holographic paper that you can buy that can give you the effect of glitter http://www.papilio.com/inkjet%20holograp鈥?/a> , if you try putting any glitter or dirt or anything other than ink trough your cartridges you will damage your printer. If is crafts that you like, try doing a search for ink jet printer crafts in google or something like this and you should be able to find plenty of things that could help you with this type of projects. Hope this helps.Where can I buy glitter printer ink?
    WHY???

    arent you a guy?

    r u gay?

not 2 b mean but seriously.
I'm a printer salesman and I've never seen or heard of such a product, unfortunately.

Likely, an ink that contained glitter would not work because inkjet printers spray the ink out of microscopic nozzles. These nozzles are so small that a piece of glitter would not be able to pass through. The printhead (that contains the nozzles) would clog almost instantly.

The only option that I can think of (without knowing what your project is) is to try purchasing some paint at some type of hobby store. Of course this may take a little more creativity and some extra time, but as far as doing your project on your printer goes, I seriously doubt that it't possible.
I would definitely try checking on Froogle or ebay before you try any stores.
    oooh *sparkle* *sparkle*
I don't know, but I have this same question. I'm trying to create inexpensive wedding invitations for my sister but don't want them to look cheap!

I plan to visit Cartridge World (www.cartridgeworldusa.com for locations) and ask them since they sell refillable ink cartridges. Perhaps there's a way to buy a refillable ink cartridge and fill it with silver ink sold at a pen store?

Why does the Printer Ink replacement cost more than the Printer?

because it gets more profit, everyone needs a printer, but the ink for it is a necesity, so they buy the cheap printer unknowing that the ink is more expensive thinking everything is just dandy, then, vwala they need more ink and chaching for the printer company.

Would my printer work if I injected non-printer ink into an empty cartridge?

I need a to print something in glittery gold but they don't sell that type of ink for my HP Photosmart printer. Would it work if I put a non-printer ink, lets say acrylic or oil-based paint, into an empty magenta cartridge, and then whatever I want as glittery gold, I color magenta so my printer associates it with the magenta ink cartridge when in fact it is filled with my glittery gold ink.Would my printer work if I injected non-printer ink into an empty cartridge?
No you can't. Especially with glitter. The glitter would just clog up the print cartridge and then you'd lose the cartridge and all the ink. If however it does print, he is right, you will kill your print head. The main thing to consider is that printers are designed for either water, alcohol, or oil based inks, and non-printer ink, 99% of the time doesn't comply to either one... I can guarantee glitter ink will mess up your printer. Sorry :(

    Hope this helps!

You could do that if the ink is mixing right, then your printer print-head will be toast forever. But, if you have a lexmark inkject, all you need is replace the whole cartridge with a set of new nozzles.
does your hp have six cartidges?

you can possibly do this, but it could be a bad experience (and it could be okay). what i would suggest is flushing the cart you want to use out with windex first. then refill the now cleaned out cart with your gold ink. then try exactly what you suggest above.

as someone else mentions, you could potentially ruin your print head this way. if you don't, and ever want to go back to magenta ink, then flush your cartridge out again and clean your print-head carrier really gently with cotton swabs and windex or rubbing alcohol.

if you want other advice on which printer might be better for this, feel free to ask again!
I would avoid doing that, it could really damage the printer. Instead try a printing service (could be much cheaper than having to buy a new printer), or getting a gold glitter pen, print your material in light yellow and just go over it with the glitter pen.

    Good luck!
I recommend not to do that!!!

1st of all, you'll will ruin your printer - definitely this will be happening.

2nd, when you print on a Jet printer, the color are mixing each other, so where you have let's say Yellow in fact you have a mix of yellow with some magenta and maybe cyan. so, if you dare to risk your printer, which i not suggest, try printing the paper twice. one print with all the image,, and then, pull out all other cartridges except the one filled with your color and print again, only that color you filled up!
If you put either acrylik and/or oil-based paint into any sort of regular commercial ink jet printer, it will definitely not work. In the best case scenario you will end up just having a mess. The ink cartridges have special ink heads that release the ink when a signal comes in, those ';gates'; will be complitely blocked and jammed if you put either acrylik or oil-based, because those kind of paints have particles that are way bigger than regular ink. Maybe if you dilute the paint you will ge ta better result, but i still doubt the priter will do a great job.

On the other side, HP cartridges are the worse one for refill, since they have a special chip in them that once the cartridge is empty the ink heads will no longer work. Even if you were to empty a new cartridge i doubt you will be able to get anything of good quality.

I hope this was of any help. I really don't know if there is any way of getting that kind of printing you want. I would try contacting some company that does flyers and stuff, maybe that way you will get better results.
